SUMMARY:  

I’ve spent the past 25 years working in the fields of computer software and electrical engineering. I specialize in the requirements analysis, design and implementation of database related systems.

 

I also pursue my interests in political activism and charitable efforts.

EMPLOYMENT


Jan 06 to Present: Senior Sybase Database Administrator.

Working for MSD Inc as a consultant for the National Center for Biotechnology Information.  NCBI is part of the National Library of Medicine which is part of the the National Institutes of Health.


Apr 02 to Dec 05: On Sabbatical with some software consulting.

I used this time as a sabbatical to refresh my technical skills including explorations of Java, PHP, Photoshop, DreamWeaver, CSS, and the Mac OS X operating system. I also performed consulting services involving non-profit business/software requirements analysis as well is IT support for non-profits. I also provided volunteer IT services to OurNationsCapital.org, BikesForTheWorld.org, DemocracyInaction.org, and ComputerCore.org. I have also been politically active, volunteering with various organizations in the local DC area.

 

1995-2002:     Multiple Roles in the Operations Division of America Online

I worked in various roles at AOL including: system architect, principal system administrator, principle database administrator, and acting director of email operations. I provided significant contributions to the following projects:

·       Email

·       Newsgroups

·       Member Profiles

·       Stock Charting Database

·       Buddylist

·       Netscape 7 integration with AOL

·       AOL integration with Japanese “DOCOMO” cell phones

·       Executive tech support for Time Warner executives who were mandated to use the AOL email system during the AOL/Time-Warner merger.

My roles in these projects included requirements analysis for new project proposals, operations planning and budgeting, group and department level management, design and implementation of large real time databases, software development of operations tools, system integration level debugging, and on call emergency support for the AOL operations department.

1992-1995:     Independent Software Consultant

Performed Sybase database related design and implementation tasks for various companies including Union Carbide, Bell Atlantic, Fannie Mae, and AOL. Tasks included requirements analysis for project proposals, database design and implementation, software configuration management, and miscellaneous software development in C, Sybase SQL, and Perl.

 

1991-1992:     Software Consultant, Sybase Inc.

Performed Sybase proposal design and implementation tasks working as a consultant for Sybase.

 

1988-1991:     Senior Systems Analyst, MCI

Served as technical lead for fast response billing fraud detection system. I was involved the design and implementation of real time databases to process calling card billing data streams.

 

1982-1988:     Hughes Aircraft and Westinghouse Defense

Worked on digital logic design task in support of aircraft radar. Migrated into manufacturing related software.
